Shropshire Fire Provide Mandatory Menopause Training

Staffordshire Fire Menopause Workshop

Talking Menopause visited Staffordshire Fire Headquarters this month to give the management team a menopause awareness briefing during their regional HR conference.

The day began with Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Rob Barber, speaking about the importance of providing mental health awareness and support in the workplace.

Women can and often do face serious mental health issues whist going through the menopause, and so the initiative by Shropshire Fire to provide mandatory menopause awareness training to their management team is invaluable. It’s clear the service recognises the importance of training their team and it’s wonderful they are acting on this awareness in such an enthusiastic and supportive way.

The conferences are held twice a year for the HR teams across the 5 West Midlands Fire Services i.e. Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Hereford and Worcester and Warwickshire, and Talking Menopause were invited to give the session following the ongoing work with Shropshire Fire.

With roughly 45 delegates in attendance, the atmosphere was inquisitive and supportive, with plenty of questions and comments, proving the team were fully on board and keen to learn more.

Elaine Hunt, Clinical Occupational Health Governance Manager at West Midlands Fire Service was very much enthused, saying:

“That was brilliant – well informed, as a speaker you are very charismatic you draw people in.”

Veena Allison, Independent Employment Law Consultant added:

“You are good at flicking the switch.”

Talking Menopause are proud to be part of the initiative of mandatory training for managers in menopause awareness, it would be incredible to witness this open and sincere attitude across all organisations.

Talking Menopause was founded in 2017 and is now a leading provider of workshops, webinars and individually tailored programmes helping organisations transform their culture and create menopause-friendly workplaces.

Menopausal women are demographically the fastest growing group of workers in the UK, but despite it being a natural life process, the menopause – and how symptoms can affect employees and organisations as a whole – is rarely discussed.
