In January this year, Talking Menopause had the great pleasure of holding a managers’ workshop at an all-day women’s conference at the Walton Centre.

The Walton Centre is the only neuroscience NHS Trust Foundation, boasting a catchment area of 3.5million people across the North West.

Held in Liverpool, the conference was attended by approximately 45 people, with 30 managers undertaking the menopause awareness workshop.

Led by Jane Mullin, Deputy Director of Workforce & Innovation, the workshop aimed to introduce and increase menopause awareness to managers and women across the trust. As always, the session included an in-depth briefing on encouraging awareness, the importance of open and frank menopause discussions as well as advice on support.

Policy & Inclusion Lead, Andrew Lynch was very much onside, saying:

“The managers’ workshop was fantastic. I did think it wasn’t for me as I’m a fella, but it was fantastic, and everyone should go on it!”

The Walton Centre is located in the Watkins building, a wonderful place of education, named after world-renowned neurosurgeon; Professor Sid Watkins who was also a pioneer in F1 safety. Coincidentally, he also happened to be the brain surgeon of Talking Menopause Director, Sarah Davies’ father, around 40 years ago!

The experience was a hugely positive one for all involved, with an atmosphere of enthusiasm and support. Attendees felt at ease participating and left with a greater understanding of the fundamental importance of menopause awareness.

Talking Menopause was founded in 2017 and is now a leading provider of workshops, webinars and individually tailored programmes helping organisations transform their culture and create menopause-friendly workplaces.

Menopausal women are demographically the fastest growing group of workers in the UK, but despite it being a natural life process, the menopause – and how symptoms can affect employees and organisations as a whole – is rarely discussed.
